Joel Sanders will toe the line in the men’s 800 meter run at the NAIA
(National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) Outdoor Track and
Field National Championships on Friday, May 27, 2005. The
Championships will be held May 26-28 in Louisville, Ky. The
preliminary race will begin on Friday at 3:30 p.m., with the finals
set for Saturday at 4:50 p.m. The top six individuals in Saturday’s
final will earn All-America honors. To qualify to the national
championships, individuals must meet a pre-determined time in each
race during the current outdoor season.
Sanders, a freshman
elementary education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider High School),
is seeded ninth in the national race with a time of 1:52.78. On May 7,
Sanders ran that time to break Huntington College’s nine-year old
school record. He also holds the school record in the men’s 4x800
meter relay with teammates Cody Hannie, David St. Louis and Ross
Luckett. Sanders earned Mid-Central Conference All-Conference honors
in April. This week he makes his outdoor national debut after
competing in the 1000 meter run in March at the NAIA Indoor Track and
Field National Championships.
