01.28.06 - The
men and women's track teams competed in a non-scored meet at the
University of Findlay on the weekend. Highlights from the event
include three individuals and one relay team meeting NAIA qualification
standards in their respective events.
Topping the list was an
outstanding individual effort by sophomore Joel Sanders. Sanders not
only qualified for NAIA Indoor Nationals in the 1000 meter run with his
time of 2:32.63, but also broke his own school record of 2:33.63 in the
process. His time placed him fourth in the event. Two freshmen
also got in the act. Lucas Beach was the eighth place finisher in
the shot put with a throw of 48'11.5", the second best throw in school
history, and Nick Johnson finished ninth in the 3000 meter run with a time
of 9:01.78, the fourth best time in HU's record books. Both marks
met NAIA provisional qualification standards for competing in Indoor
Nationals. The Forester 4x800 relay team of Adam Widner, David St.
Louis, Cody Hannie, and Sanders also met NAIA provisional standards with
their sixth place finish in 8:01.64.
In women’s action, Jill
Roughia turned in the Foresters' top performance of the day. She
finished eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:31.58. Roughia
also ran a 5:35.22 mile to finish 16th in the event. Freshman Katie
Crandall had three top 20 finishes in the 400 (16th, 1:03.89), high jump
(16th, 4'11") and triple jump (20th, 31"4"). Freshman Vanessa Macias
was 13th in the 1000 meter run (3:24.42) and 20th in the one mile run
(5:43.21), and junior Emily Sealscott came in 18th in the 5000 meter run
with her time of 20:44.
