02.25.06 - When junior Cody Hannie crossed the finish line in the 800 meter run, his time of 1:56.65 did more than garner him a first place finish in the event.  His winning time broke the school record of 1:57.02 set by Joel Sanders earlier this month on February 4.  The time also broke Anderson University's fieldhouse record of 1:58.51, and most importantly, met qualifying standards to compete in the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in March.

The Forester men dominated the 800 meter race at the Fred Wilt Memorial Invitational today. Sanders finished second in 1:59.47 and David St. Louis fourth in 2:00.00.

Other Forester highlights included another personal best for Lucas Beach in the shot put.  He continued his upward spiral in the event, winning with a toss of 52' 1", another personal best for the freshman. Dan Lindbloom ran to a fifth place finish in the mile with a time of 4:29.36.  HU's 4x400 relay team of Adam Widener, Sanders, Hannie and St. Louis took second in 3:31.58 and the Foresters' distance medley of Michael Lehman, Alex Williams, Josh Barnett and Luke Andrews came in fourth with a time of 11:24.73.  Host Anderson University won its own invite with 88 points.  HU finished sixth with 46.5 points.

On the women's side, the Foresters' 4x400 relay of Heidi Christner, Brittany Fillman, Jill Roughia and Katie Crandall picked up HU's only win on the day.  Their winning time of 4:11.69 was five seconds faster than Anderson's runner-up mark of 4:16.46.  Fillman also added a third in the 400 with a time of 1:01.32 and was a member of the Foresters' fifth place 4x200 relay (Christner, Fillman, Crandall, and Cassie Lehman) that combined for a time of 1:52.27.  Emily Sealscott posted a 3:22.04 to place third in the 1000 and teammate Laura Bowman came in sixth in 3:26.29. Crandall added a fourth in the high jump with a leap of 4' 11".  Roughia took fifth in the mile with a time of 5:33.53, and Molly Andrews' time of 19:39.54 was sixth in the 5000.  The women's distance medley (Bowman, Leah Birkey, Sealscott, and Vanessa Macias) had the third best time of 13:36.82.  Tiffin took the women's title with 107 points while HU finished sixth with 38 points.

For complete results, see Results.

National Championship Notes:  Hannie joins Sanders (1000) and Beach (shot put) as automatic qualifiers for the Indoor Track and Field National Championships to be held in Johnson City, Tennessee on March 9-11.  Nick Johnson (3000) and Jill Roughia (1000) have both met the NAIA's provisional qualification standards as did the men's 4x400 relay.
