05.24.06 - On May 13^th, Huntington University held its commencement ceremonies, marking the end of another school year for most of its students, but for three Forester track and field athletes, one final test remains.  These three individuals are heading to Fresno, California to compete in the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships to be held May 25-27, 2006.  Emily Sealscott, Joel Sanders and Lucas Beach all met qualifying standards set by the NAIA in their respective events during the outdoor season. 

Emily Sealscott, a junior Math Education major from Van Wert, Ohio (Van Wert High School), is making her first appearance at the national level.  Sealscott qualified in the 3000 meter steeplechase and enters the competition as the twelfth seed with her time of 11:38.71.   Her qualifying mark set at the Manchester Invitational on April 1 also broke the school set by more than 11 seconds.  Sealscott will run her race on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.  

Joel Sanders, a sophomore Elementary Education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider High School), qualified again this year in the men’s 800 meter run. After earning NAIA All-America honors with his fifth place finish in the 1000 at this year’s Indoor Nationals, Sanders hopes to make it to the podium again. His time of 1:53.84, set on April 29 at the Mid-Central Conference Championships, makes him the 29^th seed in the 800. In last year's outdoor national competition, he posted the 17th best time of 1:58.84 in the event.  He will again toe the line for the 800 meter preliminary race on Thursday at 4:45 p.m. Finals will be held Saturday at 4:40 p.m. 

Lucas Beach, a freshman Bible and Religion and Physical Education double major from Lucerne, Ind. (Pioneer High School), met qualifying standards in the shot put with a season-best toss of 51-01.75 at the Indiana Little State meet on April 8.  As a freshman, Beach has wasted no time making his presence known at the national level.  Having served notice with his fifth place finish in the shot put at Indoor Nationals, the All-American hopes to improve on his performance in the outdoor event.  Beach is slated to throw on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
