02.24.07 - The
Forester track teams traveled to Anderson University to participate in the
Fred Wilt Memorial Invitational and the women came away with a fourth
place finish while the men placed seventh.
In the women's
competition, Monmouth College won the team title with a score of 143.
Anderson was second with 113 points followed by Missouri Baptist (83), HU
(57), Goshen (46), DePauw (36.5), Franklin (26.5), Manchester (20), Albion
(13) and St. Francis (12).
The Foresters had nine
individuals and one relay team earn top five finishes. Emily
Holliday was the lone winner for HU. She took first in the 3000
meter steeplechase with a time of 11:37.33. Jill Roughia
finished second in
the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:06.60. Her time met NAIA
provisional qualifying standards which now qualifies her for the NAIA
National Track and Field Championships in March.
Bethany McGraw had her
best finish of the day in the long jump where her leap of 16-07.25 gave
her a
second place finish.
McGraw also was third in the triple jump (32-00.75), fourth in the 55
meter dash (7.61) and fifth in the 200 meter dash (26.97). Brittany
Fillman took fourth in the 400 meter race with a time of 1:00.50, Heidi
Christner earned a fourth place finish in the high jump clearing 4-11.75
and Katie Crandall was fifth with a leap of 4-09.75. The Foresters' 4x400
relay team of Michelle Kyler, Roughia, Fillman, and Crandall placed third
with a time of 4:12.87.
Monmouth College earned the sweep
winning the men's team title as well with a score of 154.
Missouri Baptist was second (87) followed by Anderson (66), Albion
(60), Franklin (44), Manchester (40), HU (37), DePauw (32), St.
Francis (23), Calumet College of St. Joseph (4) and Goshen (4).
Joel
Sanders had the top finish for HU. He came in second in the mile
with a time of 4:23.03. Joseph Njeri finished third in the 5000 meter
run with a time of 15:24.14. Lucas Beach took fourth in the shot
put with a toss of 49-10.50. Nick Johnson earned two fifth place
finishes in the mile (4:26.01) and the 800 meter run (2:03.89).
Three other individuals, Luke Diehl (1000 m, 2:43.05), Dan Lindbloom
(3000 steeplechase, 9:53.64) and Aaron Mills (pole vault, 13-01.00)
placed fifth in their respective events. The Foresters' distance
medley relay team of Michael Lehman, Dan Schaber, Josh Barnett and
Lindbloom ran to a third place finish with a time of 11:12.26.
Note:
On Friday evening,
HU runner, Dan Lindbloom, competed in the 3000 meter run at the
University of Chicago and won the event with a time of 8:57.03.
His time also met NAIA provisional standards
which qualifies him
for the NAIA National Track and Field Championships in March. He
is the eighth Forester to qualify.
