03.12.07 - Huntington
University sophomore Lucas Beach earned his second NAIA All-America honor
with his sixth place finish in the shot put at the NAIA Indoor Track and
Field National Championships.
Beach,
a Bible and
Religion and Physical Education double major from Lucerne, Ind. (Pioneer
High School),
came up with a toss of 54-08.00, which was an improvement on his
personal best of 53-02.25
set at last year's national competition.
Seven other Foresters participated in the
National Championships and gained valuable experience competing against the NAIA's
top athletes. Jill Roughia, a
sophomore History Education major from Bryant, Ind. (Jay County High School),
returned to the national event for the second time. She again
competed in the 1000 meter run and after finishing 20th last year, she
improved to a 10th place finish with a time of 3:07.92.
Bethany McGraw, a freshman Exercise Science major from Perrysburg,
Ohio (Toledo Christian High School) made her debut at the National
Championships in the long jump. She recorded a leap of
16-10.00 to finish 16th in the event.
Cody Hannie, a
senior English Education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider High
School), made his fourth appearance at the National Championships.
He ran in the 1000 meter race and finished 16th with a time
of 2:33.79.
Nick Johnson, a
sophomore Exercise Science major from Huntington, Ind. (Huntington North High
School) returned to the national event for the second time to
compete in the 3000 meter run. He ran to a 17th place finish with
a personal best time of 8:53.26.
Dan Lindbloom, a sophomore Exercise
Science major from Evergreen Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian High
School) made
his first appearance at the National Championships. He joined
Johnson in the 3000 meter run and also posted a personal best time
of 8:54.72 to finish 19th.
Joel Sanders,
a junior
Elementary Education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider High
School), made his third trip to the national event to compete in the
1000 meter run. Sanders ran to a 19th place finish with a time
of 2:34.36.
Joseph Njeri, a sophomore Sociology
major form Nairobi, Kenya, competed for the first time at the National Championships. Njeri
ran in the 5000 meter race and was 36th with a time of 16:31.35.
