04.13.07 - The Forester track teams traveled to IUPUI to compete in the Little State Championships on the weekend.  The women posted their best score in several years to finish seventh of 16 teams and the men were 13th in a field of 20.  The University of Indianapolis, a NCAA Division II institution, swept both meets winning the men's event with 101 points and the women's with 235.

In men's action, Dan Lindbloom broke the school record and automatically qualified for the NAIA Track and Field National Championships with his time of 9:25.23 in the 3000 meter steeplechase to finish fifth.  He surpassed Eric Ade's mark of 9:28.62 set back on May 12, 2000.  Joseph Njeri (31:52.85) and Nick Johnson (32:38.40) posted the second and third fastest times in school history in the 10,000 meter run with their third and eighth place finishes respectively.  Njeri met provisional qualification standards for competing in the National Championships with his time.  Joel Sanders turned in the Foresters best finish of the meet with his third place in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:53.86.  Lucas Beach added a fifth in the shot put with a toss of 48-05.25.

Indiana Wesleyan finished second behind Indianapolis in the scoring with 84.50 points.  Bethel was third with 81 points followed by Anderson (71), St. Joseph's (69), DePauw (47.50), Tri-State and Taylor (37), Wabash (36.50), Southern Indiana (32), Vincennes (31), St. Francis (23), HU (21), Earlham (17), Rose-Hulman (15.50), Franklin (14), Manchester (11), Marian (6), Hanover (5) and Goshen (1).

On the women's side, Bethany McGraw scored in three events to lead the Foresters.  She placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 33-00.25.  She recorded a 16-09.25 mark in the long jump for fifth place and she came in seventh in the 200 meter race with a time of 26.55 to tally 11 points for HU.  The Foresters 4x400 relay team of Michelle Kyler, Lauren Davenport, Brittany Fillman and Katie Crandall brought home the only Forester win with a time of 4:09.73.

Five other Foresters had top eight finishes to score for HU.  Fillman broke the minute mark in the 400 meter with her time of 59.60 to finish second.  Emily Holliday earned a fourth place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:48.04 and a sixth place in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:48.10.  Crandall had two sixth place finishes in the 100 meter hurdles (16.12) and the high jump (5-00.25) and was eighth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.83.  Kyler went 8-11.75 in the pole vault for a sixth place finish and Heidi Christner added a sixth place in the javelin with a toss of 93-09.

Following Indianapolis in the standings was Indiana Wesleyan (85), Anderson (67), St. Joseph's (64), Bethel and Goshen (56), HU (51), Marian (50), Earlham, (32), Southern Indiana (27), DePauw (25), Franklin (13), Taylor (8), Manchester (6), Rose-Hulman (2) and Vincennes, Hanover and Grace each with one point.
