the men and women's track teams earned a fourth place finish in the
Mid-Central Conference Championships.
Indiana Wesleyan swept both meets winning
the men's championship with 208 points and the women's with 195.5.
In men's action, HU took
six firsts with two runners earning a pair of wins. Joseph Njeri won
the 5000 meter run in 15:42.12 and the 10,000 meter run in 32:29.16. Joel
Sanders crossed the line first in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.39
and the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:04.27. Lucas Beach won the
shot put event with a personal best toss of 16.58m while Dan Lindbloom
posted the winning time of 9:36.91 in the 3000 meter steeplechase and
finished second in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:43.47. The
men's 4x800 relay (Luke Diehl, Cody Hannie, Lindbloom, Sanders) broke the
school record and met provisional qualification standards to participate
in the NAIA National Championships in May with their time of 7:49.66.
The previous school record was 7:55.01 set in 2005. Beach,
Lindbloom, Njeri and Sanders each earned MCC All-Conference honors.
Following Indiana Wesleyan
in the standings were Bethel (184), Taylor (142), HU (113), Goshen (61),
St. Francis (50), Marian (45) and Spring Arbor (3).
On the women's side, the
Foresters won three individual events and the 4x400 relay. Brittany
Fillman won the 400 meter dash and set a new personal record with her time
of 58.73. Emily Holliday won the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time
of 11:51.02 and Bethany McGraw landed first and a personal best in the
triple jump with a leap of 35-07.00. The 4x400 relay of Michelle Kyler,
Lauren Davenport, Fillman and Katie Crandall won with a time of 3:59.57
and qualified for the NAIA national meet.
McGraw added a second
place in the long jump with her mark of 16-06.25 and HU's 4x800 relay
(Fillman, Jessah Brumbaugh, Jill Roughia, Davenport) took second and
qualified for the national meet with their time of 9:33.80. Fillman,
Holliday and McGraw were joined by Crandall on the MCC All-Conference
team. Crandall finished fourth in the 100 hurdles (15.75) and the
high jump (5-0), fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:08.37) and she ran a leg of
the winning 4x400 relay.
Bethel finished second
behind Indiana Wesleyan with 141 points followed by Marian (131), HU
(109), Goshen (97), Taylor (63.5), Spring Arbor (35), Grace (21) and St.
Francis (19).
