Fourteen Foresters were among the hundreds of track and field athletes who
participated in the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Fresno, California over
the past weekend.
Lucas Beach, a Bible and Religion and
Physical Education double major from Lucerne, Indiana (Pioneer High
School), brought home the top finish for the Foresters. He
finished 13th in the shot put with a toss of 51-01.50.
The women’s 4x400 relay team posted its best time of the season to
finish 15th in the event. The team ,
which included Brittany Fillman (Markle, IN, Norwell HS, English
Education major), Lauren Davenport (Andrews, IN, Huntington North HS,
Exercise Science major), Katie Crandall (Anderson, IN, Lapel HS,
Exercise Science major) and Bethany McGraw (Perrysburg, OH, Toledo
Christian HS, Exercise Science major) crossed the line in 3:58.02.
Joel Sanders, an Elementary Education major from Fort Wayne,
Indiana (Snider High School), nearly matched his personal best time of
1:52.29 in the trials of the 800 meter run to move on to the
semifinals of the event. His 1:52.45 in the first round was the
fourth fastest time posted on the opening day. In the semifinals
on Friday, Sanders finished 16th overall with a time of 1:55.04.
Dan Lindbloom, an Exercise Science major from Evergreen Park,
Illinois (Chicago Christian High School) competed in the 3000
meter steeplechase and finished 16th with a time of 9:29.91.
Emily Holliday, a
Math Education major from Van Wert, Ohio (Van Wert High
School), was the 17th place finisher in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase
with her time of 12:01.03.
The women’s 4x800 relay team made up of Fillman, Jessah Brumbaugh
(Huntington, IN, Bellmont HS, Sociology major), Lauren
Davenport and Jill Roughia (Bryant, IN, Jay County HS, History
Education major) also had a 17th place finish with a time of 9:47.33.
Joseph Njeri, a Sociology major from Nairobi, Kenya, placed 21st in the
10,000 meter run with his time of 34:31.32.
The men’s 4x800 relay posted a time of 8:14.47 to also
finish 21st. The team included
Sanders, Cody Hannie (Fort Wayne, IN, Snider HS, English major),
Nick Johnson (Huntington, IN Huntington North HS,
Exercise Science major) and Luke Diehl (Bluffton, IN, Norwell HS,
Youth Ministries major).
 Crandall made
her debut at the national level in the 400 meter hurdles. She
ran a 1:07.80 in the trials to finish 28th in the event.
Two Foresters, Emily Holliday and Joel Sanders, also were
recognized as Champions of Character. The athletes earned the
award by exemplifying the Champions of Character core values of
respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and
sportsmanship in their athletic endeavors.
