02.22.08 - While
competing in the Grand Rapids Championship hosted by Grand Valley State
University, two more Foresters met either provisional or automatic
qualification standards to compete in the NAIA Indoor Track and
Field National Championships to be held in Johnson City, Tennessee March
6-8. Nick Johnson and Joseph Njeri joined five others who qualified
earlier this season.
Johnson automatically
qualified in the 3000 meter run with his time of 8:43.34 which placed him
third in the event and Njeri met provisional standards in the 5000 meter
run with his fifth place finish in 15:24.00. Joel Sanders won the
800 meter run with a time of 1:54.81 to automatically qualify to compete
in a second event. He also had previously qualified in the 1000
meter run. On the women's side, Bethany McGraw met provisional
standards in her third event, the 400 meter dash, with a fifth place
finish in 1:00.17. McGraw had already met provisional standards in
the long jump and triple jump.
Other highlights from the
event included two first place finishes by McGraw in the long jump
(17-07.00) and the triple jump (10-77m) as well as a third place finish in
the 200 meter dash (9.18). Kameron Bailey was third in the 400 meter
dash (51:07), Cassie Lehman was fourth in the 55 meter hurdles (9.18) and
Tobias Sauter was fourth in the 5000 meter run (15:23.67).
