02.22.08 - Eastbrook High School standout, Kelsey
Green, has signed a Letter of Intent to continue both her basketball
and track careers at Huntington University this fall. Green, a 5’11
forward, capped off a stellar basketball career by helping lead the
Panthers to a Sectional Championship and an 18-6 record with her
team-leading 17.1 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. She will
graduate having scored 973 career points.
Green’s success on
the court also garnered her numerous individual honors. She was a
pre-season Hoosier Basketball Magazine Honorable Mention
All-State selection and she earned All-Conference honors in the
Central Indiana Conference (CIC) in each of her final three seasons
at Eastbrook. As a senior, Green was chosen for the IHSAA Role
Model Program because of her excellence in athletics, superior
grades, outstanding character and community involvement.
Huntington
University basketball coach, Lori Culler, is looking forward to
Green’s contributions to the team. “We have been very thin in the
post this season, so Kelsey will help fill a void. She is a banger
inside and goes to the boards hard. She also has a good mid-range
jumper that makes her a more versatile player. Add her work ethic
and competitiveness to the mix and you have all the ingredients for
a successful transition to the collegiate level. I expect Kelsey to
contribute immediately and to have an outstanding career here at
Huntington.”
As a track athlete,
Green will be a tremendous addition to Coach Tom King’s roster in
the throwing events. In each of her three seasons to date, Green
qualified for Regionals in the discus and advanced to State last
year as a junior. The three-time CIC All-Conference athlete
currently holds the school record in the discus with a throw of
124-7. Green also placed eighth in the shot at the indoor state
meet last season.
“We are excited to
have Kelsey join our track and field team," said Coach King. "She
is an excellent thrower that has prepared well for the college
level. It will be fun having her on our team.” |
