01.10.09 - The
Foresters hosted the Frozen Forest Invitational to open their indoor
track season and the men came away with a convincing win while the women
finished second.
In men's action,
HU took first place in 12 of the 15 events on the day. Lucas
Beach automatically qualified to compete in the NAIA Indoor Track
National Championships in early March in the shot put with his
winning toss of 51-02.00. Kameron
Bailey and Sean LaFontaine were both double winners on the day.
Bailey placed first in the 55 meter dash (6.61) and the 300 meter
dash (38.15), while LaFontaine won the 55 meter hurdles (9.09) and
the 400 meter dash (55.09).
Other Forester winners
included Shane Feemster in the triple jump (30-09.00), Matthias
Haller in the 800 meter (2:01.76), Nick Johnson in the 1600 meter
(4:26.42), Aaron Mills in the pole vault (13-06.00) and Joseph Njeri
in the 3200 meter (10:00.40). HU also won the 4x800 relay
(9:08.20) and the 4x1 mile relay (3:02.76).
HU won the team event
with a score of 77 followed by Manchester with 25 and St. Francis
with 11.
On
the women's side,
Bethany McGraw
paced
the Foresters with three individual first place finishes.
She
met provisional qualifying standards to compete in the NAIA National
Championships with her winning leap of 17-05.50 in the long jump.
McGraw also crossed first in the 300 meter with a time of 46.08 and
she won the triple jump with a mark of 33-11.00. Other winners
included Josann Schoeff in the 400 meter with a time of 1:10.17 and
Cassie Lehman in the 55 meter hurdles in 9.50. The HU women
also won the 4x1 mile relay with a time of 3:51.42.
Manchester
won the meet with a team score of 58. The Foresters were
second with 47 and St Francis was third with 10.
