02.21.09 - The
Foresters competed at the Grand Valley State University Indoor Track Invitational
and Matthias Haller and Joseph Njeri both met qualification standards to compete in the NAIA
Indoor Track and Field National
Championships in Johnson City, Tennessee on March 5-7. They join
five other Foresters who had previously qualified to compete in the
national event.
Haller automatically
qualified in the 800 meter by winning the event in 1:54.94 and Njeri
finished third in the 5000 meter with a time of 15:21.78 to meet
provisional standards. Nick Johnson, who had already qualified for
Nationals in the 5000 meter, met provisional standards in the one mile
run with his fifth place finish in 4:19.86. Lucas Beach recorded his top
mark of the season with a toss of 54-09.50 in the shot put to finish
second and Kameron Bailey took third in the 200 meter with a time of
22.67.
On the women's side,
Jill Roughia
was HU's lone winner on the day. She crossed the line first in
the 1000 meter with a time of 3:07.12. Bethany McGraw posted three
top five finishes with a third in the triple jump (33-02.00), a
fourth in the 200 meter (27.01) and a fifth in the long jump
(16-08.50). Josann Schoeff placed third in the 200 meter in
26.75 and fourth in the 60 meter dash in 8.20 and Cassie Lehman took
fifth in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.69.
