03.07.09 - Two Huntington
University seniors, Lucas Beach and Nick Johnson, brought home NAIA All-America honors
after finishing fourth in their respective events at the NAIA Indoor Track and
Field National Championships.
Lucas Beach, a Bible
and religion and physical education double major from
Lucerne, Ind. (Pioneer High School), earned his third Indoor
All-America honor in the shot put with his toss of 53-08.25.
His fourth place finish was the best of his career after placing fifth in
the event as a freshman and sixth as a sophomore.
Nick Johnson, an exercise
science major from Huntington, Ind. (Huntington North High School),
earned his first NAIA Track All-America honor in the 5000 meter with
a personal best time of 14:47.16. This past fall, Johnson was also a
NAIA All-American in cross country.
Five other Foresters participated in the
National Championships and gained valuable experience competing against the NAIA's
top athletes.
Dan Lindbloom, a senior exercise
science major from Evergreen Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian High
School), qualified for the finals of the 3000 meter and posted his
best finish in three national appearances placing eighth overall with a
time of 8:42.33.
Bethany McGraw, a junior exercise science major from
Perrysburg, Ohio (Toledo Christian High School), competed for the third
time in the long jump. McGraw came away with a 10th place
finish with a leap of 17-08.75. Matthias Haller, a freshman biology
major from Lahr, Germany, was a first-time qualifier at the national
event and ran to a 13th place finish in the 800 meter
with his time of 1:57.54.
Joseph Herber, a freshman business
management major from Fremont, Ind. (Fremont High School), also made
his debut on the national level. He placed 17th in the 3000
meter with a time of 9:06.42.
Joseph Njeri, a senior sociology
major from Nairobi, Kenya, made his third appearance at the Indoor
Championships and turned in his best finish placing 27th in the 5000
meter with his time of 15:50.56.
