McGraw, Davenport lead Forester women to win

04.18.09 - Bethany McGraw and Lauren Davenport combined to score 52 points in individual events to help lead the Forester women's track team to its second win of the outdoor season at the Wilmington College Invitational.  The men finished second at the meet.

McGraw scored 32 points in four individual events and anchored two relays that accounted for 14 additional points on the day. She won the long jump with a leap of 16-06.  She was second in the 100 (13.22) and the triple jump (33-10.75) and she was third in the 200 in 26.66.  McGraw anchored both the winning 4x400 relay that finished in 4:04.10 and the fifth place 4x100 relay (56.18).  Davenport won both the 1500 with a time of 4:48.70 and the 400 hurdles in 1:06.13.  She also ran a leg in HU's winning 4x400 relay.

Other winners on the day included Cassie Lehman in the 100 hurdles (16.06), Kelsey Green in the discus (120-01), Haleigh Osborne in the shot put (40-05.50) and Jill Roughia in the 3000 meter steeplechase (12:19.33).

The Foresters took the women's team title with a score of 154 followed by Marietta (141), Wilmington (133), Wittenberg (85), Earlham (76), Bluffton (53), Mount St. Joseph (40) and Midway (6).

In men's action, Lucas Beach was a double winner in the meet.  He landed the winning throw in the hammer at 166-10 and he was first in the shot put with a toss of 50-08. Joseph Herber edged teammate Nick Johnson by .14 seconds to win the 5000 in 15:45.33, but Johnson crossed the line first to win the 1500 with a time of 4:02.42.  Sean LaFontaine picked up HU's fourth win in the 400 hurdles with a time of 56.57.

Wilmington won the men's team title with a score of 155 followed by HU (130), Wittenberg (128), Marietta (116), Earlham (61), Mount St. Joseph (50) and Bluffton (40).
