04.04.09 - The Foresters competed in the Manchester College
Invitational on Saturday. The women dominated the meet winning 13
of the 19 events to capture the team title while the men finished
fourth.
Bethany McGraw was the most decorated competitor for HU. She won
four individual events and ran a leg in two winning relays on the day.
She won both the 100 (13.07) and the 200 (27.06) meter sprints and she
took first in the long jump (16-01.75) and the triple jump (33-05.75).
She also anchored both the 4x100 relay that won in 51.88 and the 4x400
relay that took first in 4:08.98.
Lauren Davenport qualified to compete in the
NAIA Outdoor Track National Championships in a second event by winning
the 400 hurdles with a time 1:04.01. She also won the 400 meter
race in 59.04 and ran the third leg of the winning 4x400 relay.
Jill Roughia was a double winner in the 800 meter (2:31.01) and the 1500
meter (5:06.74). Kelsey Green placed first in both the discus
(127-06) and the javelin (100-05) and Haleigh Osborne won the shot put
with a toss of 40-00.75.
The Foresters won the invitational with a
score of 222 followed by Manchester (212), Defiance (131) and Trine
(26).
On the men's side, three Foresters, Lucas
Beach, Nick Johnson and Luke Diehl, each met NAIA qualification
standards to compete in the NAIA National Championships. Beach qualified
by winning the shot put with a mark of 52-01.25 and he won the hammer
(165-00) as well. Nick Johnson, who had previously qualified in
the 5000 meter, ran the 10,000 in 31:49.00 to qualify in his second
event and Luke Diehl met provisional qualifying standards with the
winning time of 9:35.50 in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Other winners for HU included Dan Lindbloom
and Todd Fiedler. Lindbloom won both the 1500 meter (4:08.28) and
the 5000 meter (15:33.85) and Fiedler was first in the long jump with a
leap of 19-08.
The host Spartans won the competition with a
team score of 198.50 followed by Trine (183.50), Defiance (149) and HU
