_________________________ Huntington College NAIA Nationals Wrap-up Congratulations to those HC athletes who competed at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships held in Abbotsford, British Columbia from May 25-27. Despite rainy weather for most of the competitors, HC faired extremely well at the meet. The following are the results of the nine HC athletes who qualified to the national meet: John Ngure had the highest placing for the HC tracksters as he was a double All-American. He placed 2nd in the 10,000M with a time of 30:34.17 and 5th in the 5000M in a time of 14:32.42. He will be returning to the Forester cross country and track squads next year. He holds the school record in both of these track events. Eric Ade ran a great race in the prelims of the 3000M Steeplechase and out-leaned a competitor at the end to earn the last spot into the finals. In finals, he moved up a couple spots to finish 10th in a time of 9:42.35. Ade graduated this year after putting in four strong years of running for the HC cross country and track programs. He holds the school record in the Steeplechase. Fred Miller ran a grueling race in the Marathon. He finished in 2:57:25.00 which placed him 19th. Miller also graduated this year after a great career in cross country and a nice season in his first and only year of track. He set the school records in both the half marathon and the marathon this year. The women's 4X800 relay finished 10th in a time of 9:27.35. The relay consisted of Rachel Kaser, Jennie Mach, Aimee Sullivan, and Danielle Vohs. All will be returning next year for the cross country and track teams except for Kaser, who graduated after offering much talent to the squads in her years at HC. Bethany Manter threw 142-08 in the hammer with a respected 13th place finish. She qualified just the week before taking off to nationals with a 148-03, her best throw throughout her four years. She also has graduated after four strong years for the team in the throwing events and two years in the pole vault, in which she hold the school record. Jenifer Reinking placed 18th in the field of 10,000M runners in a time of 39:35.94. She leaves HC after four years with the school record in that event. She also had a great career with the cross country squad. Danielle Vohs ran the prelims of the 800 only after an aproximate 20 minute rest from the 4X800 relay. She made it into the semis the next day and ran a strong race. She will be returning to the HC cross country and track squads next year. The men's team scored 12 points to finish 23rd in the national meet. Congratulations to Coaches Tom King, Lindsay Motta, and Mark Green for an excellent year of coaching the athletes to a great season. |
