Fillman qualifies to nationals in 800 meters

5/8 -  Freshman Brittany Fillman made the best of her last opportunity before the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships as she met the provisional qualifying mark in the 800 meters. Her time of 2:18.39 placed her 13th overall while teammates Brooke Welch (2:24.87, 22nd), Nicole Jacob (2:25.84, 24th) and Courtney Gullickson (2:26.94, 26th) each ran strong races. The women's 4x800 relay will now have to wait to see if their relay time of 9:39.41, which they ran at the Mid-Central Conference Championships on April 30, will make the top-16 cut for the national championships.

For the men, Jonathan Doyle ran a 54.90 in the 400 meter hurdles at North Central to finish second. He also posted a time of 22.78 in the 200 meter dash to finish 22nd overall. Teammate David St. Louis finished 29th in the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:47.84) and Matt Waldfogel turned in a season-best time in the 1500 meters in 4:06.64.

The NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships will take place in Louisville, Ky., May 27-29, 2004.
