this time, King has been selected by his peers as Mid-Central Conference
Coach of the Year 30 times, District 21 Coach of the Year seven times, NCCAA

his men’s cross country team finished sixth at the NAIA National

and second highest finish to date. His women's cross country squad has
qualified for the national championships a number of times.
King
received his AB degree in Political Science from Ashland University in Ohio.
While attending Ashland, he was a distance runner on the track team and ran
second for four years in cross country. He has done post-graduate work at
The Ohio State University and Ball State University. King served as
Huntington College athletic director from 1987-95, and was a HC Centennial
Medallion Award Recipient in 1997. In 2001, Coach King was inducted in the
Huntington College Athletic Hall of Fame. He and his wife, Jan, have three
married children, Rollin, Doris and Dan, and have two granddaughters.
Bethany Doyle - Assistant Coach, 3rd
year
Coach
Doyle enters her third year as an
assistant coach with the Foresters. She is a 2000 graduate of Huntington
College with a BA in Journalism. Doyle was a four-year letter winner for the
Forester track and field program from 1996-2000 (then known as Bethany
Manter), specializing in the throws and the pole vault. She
currently spends her time coaching the throws and sprints and is in charge
of meet entries and other administrative duties.
While at Huntington, Doyle contributed to team
successes, helping lead the Foresters to three MCC Championship titles. She
was All-MCC three times and a four-time NAIA national qualifier – twice
indoor with the 20# weight and twice outdoor in the hammer. Her distance of
148-03 in the hammer is second all-time at HC. Doyle is also fourth all-time
in the discus and sixth in the shot put. She began pole vaulting her junior
year when it became a scored event for women. Doyle owns the school record
in that event with a height of 9-0.25. Doyle was also Indiana Little State
champion in the hammer her senior year and runner-up her junior year.
After graduation, Doyle spent her summer interning in
the communication department at USA Track and Field in Indianapolis, Ind.
Following that summer, she spent a year at Northwestern University in
Evanston, Ill., as a sports information director for a few of the Wildcat
athletic teams, working many Big Ten Conference sporting events. Doyle came
to work for Huntington College in August 2001, and serves as the Assistant
Director of Public Relations in the Advancement Office. In June 2002, she married
fellow HC graduate Stephen Doyle. (She threw her bouquet like a discus!) The
Doyle's currently reside in Huntington.
Greg Byrum - Assistant Coach, 2nd
year
Coach
Byrum enters his second year as an
assistant coach with the Foresters. He is a 2002 graduate of Huntington
College with a BS in Mathematics Education. Byrum was a letter-winner in
cross country and track for the Foresters, and was named an NAIA
All-American Scholar Athlete in cross country. He also holds membership in
Chi Alpha Sigma, the athletic honor society at HC. Byrum now spends his time coaching
the distance crew as well as the long jump and triple jump. Byrum is a high
school mathematics teacher at Huntington North High School and is engaged to
be married in June to senior mid-distance runner and NAIA national qualifier
Nicole Jacob.
