errors and the inability to sustain the momentum cost the Foresters in
a disappointing four-game loss to Indiana Wesleyan University.
HU got off to a great start surprising the MCC second-ranked Wildcats
with a 30-23 win in game one. IWU evened the match getting the
30-25 win in game two. Both teams sensed the importance of game
three, but it was the Wildcats that claimed the pivotal game 31-29.
HU was serving for the match at 29-28, but three ball handling errors
in a row cost the Foresters the game, and in the end, the match.
With the momentum clearly in IWU's favor, the Wildcats put HU away
decisively with the 30-19 victory in game four.
"It's very disappointing when you give
away a match that you could have won," lamented Coach Schroeder.
"We had a strong start again, but as has been our tendency early this
season, we just can't sustain it for the entire match. On the
positive side, this match served as a measuring stick for where we are
at this point in the season, and we were definitely in the match.
If we can develop better consistency as we get deeper into the season,
we should be able to compete with anyone in the conference."
For the match, Amy Wilson led the team
with 18 kills and Renee Biberstine added 13. Kayley Cervenka had
five blocks and Tiffany Malfait had four. Kellie Hanson dished
out 45 assists and Stephanie Stearns had a team-high 32 digs and
three aces. With the loss, the women drop to 6-3 on the season
and 1-1 in the MCC.
