09.08.07 - After winning the Defiance College Invitational a year ago, the Foresters mirrored their feat again this season by again dropping just one game in four matches on their way to the title.

HU’s Kayley Cervenka was named the tournament MVP and Stephanie Stearns was selected as the defensive player of the tournament. 

HU opened the tournament with a three-game win 30-19, 30-12, 31-29 over Concordia College.  Brittney Smelser and Heidi Christner each put down 10 kills to lead the Forester attack.  Cervenka has eight kills and eight blocks, Alyssa Schroeder added 35 assists and Stephanie Stearns had 21 digs in the match. 

Against Marietta College, the Foresters took game one 30-26, but then dropped game two 30-24.  HU got back on track in game three and put Marietta away 30-19 and 30-22 for the win. Smelser and Christner had 16 and 15 kills respectively. Schroeder dished out 53 assists. Stearns had 18 digs and Smelser added five aces. 

A 30-25, 30-24, 30-16 win over John Carroll College on Saturday morning earned the Foresters a spot in the championship game.  Smelser again led the way with 18 kills, 11 digs, three aces and two blocks.  Cervenka added seven blocks Stearns finished with 15 digs and Schroeder had 39 assists and four aces. 

In the championship game, HU knocked off Bluffton University 30-27, 30-16, 30-16 to repeat as tournament champions. Smelser had nine kills, three blocks and five aces.  Schroeder had 21 assists and Stearns added 15 digs in the win. 

With the four wins, the Foresters improve to 7-2 on the season.
