09.12.09 - HU goes 3-1 at the Defiance College tournament to finish second.  In the first game against Marygrove College, the Foresters had no trouble winning in three straight, 25-10, 25-15, 25-17.  Rebekah Brown finished with 10 kills, Alyssa Schroeder had 29 assists, Stacie Hoffman added 4 blocks and Katie Bowers recorded 8 digs and 4 aces.

In game two, HU was narrowly defeated by tournament host Defiance College, 25-18, 13-25, 22-25, 25-20, 17-19.  Brittney Smelser led the way with 19 kills followed by Amanda Meyers with 11.  Rebekah Brown chipped in seven blocks while Alyssa Schroeder dished out 48 assists and Denise Lehman recorded 29 digs.

HU was able to slip past Concordia University in game three of the tourney, 26-28, 25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 15-12.  Smelser again led the way with 23 kills, Schroeder added 47 assists and Lehman pitched in 32 digs.  “This was a match of momentum.  Concordia’s defense was tremendous.  We really had a hard time getting kills.  However, we never quit attacking and our defense kept getting better as the match went on,” commented Coach Schroeder.

HU needed all five games to earn the win over Siena Heights University, 24-26, 25-18, 25-22, 19-25, 15-5. Schroeder paced the Foresters with 42 assists while Smelser and Brown recorded 12 and 11 kills respectively.  Schroeder was named to the all-tournament team.

After going 3-1 over the weekend, the Foresters are now 5-5 on the year.
