- Clutch shooting by HC's Janna Knisely and Jamie Grogg lifted the
Foresters to the 82-76 win in overtime. Down 68-66 with :16
left in regulation, HC rebounded a missed free throw by Cougar
Kristen Van Valin and got the ball into Jessica Ramey's hands.
Ramey drove to the hole, but kicked it out to Knisely who was all
alone on the right wing. Knisely's trey was nothing but net
giving the Foresters a 69-68 lead with nine seconds left. Spring
Arbor's Shanna Grubaugh then took the inbounds pass and was fouled
by Ramey on her drive through the lane with 2.5 seconds to play.
Grubaugh hit the first free throw to tie it at 69-69, but missed the
second and time expired during the scramble for the rebound.
HC's Amy Berry scored the Foresters' first four points in the
overtime and dished out an assist to Betsey Bean in the left corner
to help give the Foresters a 75-71 lead two minutes into the extra
period. Two free throws by Spring Arbor's Jenna Sharp pulled
the Cougars back to within one at 75-74. Following a Cougar
timeout, HC broke down the Cougars' full court press and Ramey found
Jamie Grogg open in the deep left corner. Grogg knocked down
the three, her fifth of the game, to put HC up 78-74 with under a
minute to play. Grubaugh made it a one possession game with a
reverse layup with :36 left to play. Grogg was immediately
fouled on the inbounds pass and hit both charity tosses to again
give the Foresters an 80-76 lead. Grogg came up with the
rebound on Amanda Salisbury's 3-point attempt and hit two more free
throws to secure the win. Grogg finished with a game-high 27
points on 7-11 shooting, including 5-8 from behind the arc and 8-8
from the line. Berry added 23 points and seven rebounds.
Knisely chipped in 12 points and six rebounds. Sharp and
Grubaugh each had 15 to lead the Cougars. The women move to
8-10 on the season and are now 3-4 in the MCC.
