- After spotting the Bethel College Pilots 11 points over the
first 3:21 of the game, the Foresters fought their way back to get
an important 88-80 win on the road. HU's Betsey Bean finally
hit a three at the top of the circle to get the Foresters on the
board at the 16:24 mark and completed the comeback on a layup by Amy
Berry that knotted the score at 27 with 6:22 to go in the half.
Berry also gave HU its first lead of the game at 38-37 on a free
throw with just over a minute until halftime, but two Pilot treys in
the final 27 seconds gave Bethel the 43-38 lead at the break.
Natalie Young opened
the second half with a third 3-pointer to push the Pilots' lead to
eight, but HU's Janna Knisely answered with a trey of her own to
spark an 11-2 run, giving the Foresters a 49-48 lead with 15:32 on
the clock. The two teams traded baskets for a few minutes
until Berry hit a long bomb to give HU the lead for good at 58-55.
Up 62-61, the Foresters used a 13-5 run to take its largest lead of
the game at 75-66 with 5:17 to play. A layup by Young brought
the Pilots within six at 80-74 with 1:29 to go, but two charity
tosses by Bean moved the Foresters' cushion back to eight and Bethel
could get no closer.
The Foresters got balanced scoring from their
starting five with four reaching double figures, including three
with 20 points or more. Bean and Berry each netted 23 points
and Jessica Ramey added 20 points and seven assists. Kendra
Stahl finished with 11 and Knisely
added nine. Young led the Pilots with 21 and Miller scored 16
off the bench. HU shot 59% from the field on their way to 50
second half points to get the come-from-behind win, and they
out-rebounded the MCC's top rebounding team 32-31. With the
win, the women improve to 10-8 on the season and are 5-3 in
conference play at the end of the first round of games.
