- The
NAIA 8th-ranked Cougars of St. Francis shot 67% (20-30) from the
field in the first half to bury the Foresters early and cruised to
the 90-63 win. A field goal by Janna Knisely put HU up 6-4 in the
early minutes of the game, but a 10-0 USF run quickly had the
Foresters playing catch-up. HU was still within eight at 26-18 near
the midpoint of the half when the Cougars ran off 11 straight points
to take a commanding 19-point lead at 37-18. The teams traded
baskets over the final six minutes of the period and left the floor
with USF up 51-31.
HU's Amy Berry
and Kendra Stahl scored the first two buckets of the second half to
cut the deficit to 16, but it was as close as the Foresters would
get. USF's advantage hovered around 20 points most of the half
until a 10-2 spurt over the final five minutes of the game led to
the final margin of victory.
After scorching
the nets in the first half, the Cougars cooled off to 52% in the
second and finished the game at 59%. Outside of Amy Berry, who went
13-16 from the field for 29 points, the rest of the Foresters were
11-35 from the field for a meager 31%. Jessica Ramey was the only
other Forester to score in double figures with 15 points. Chivonn
Keppeler led five double digit scorers for the Cougars. She was
9-10 from the field for 20 points. USF also owned a huge advantage
on the boards, out-rebounding HU 37-18. The loss drops the
Foresters to 11-10 on the season and 6-4 in the MCC.
