11.11.05 - Ohio Dominican’s Cassidy Wertman drained a ten-foot baseline jumper with one second left on the clock to spoil Huntington University’s home opener with a 64-62 come-from-behind win in the Huntington AmeriHost Classic.

The HU Foresters trailed by as many as eight in the first half, but rallied to tied it 28-28 on an old-fashioned 3-point play by Jessica Ramey with three seconds remaining in the period.  Huntington opened the second half with a 22-9 run to take a 13-point lead at 50-37 with 12:29 to play.  The Panthers would not go away as they continued to wreak havoc with their constant full court pressure.  They whittled HU’s lead down to one at 60-59 on two free throws from Kayla Waller with 27 ticks left on the clock.  ODU’s Megan Niese then fouled Ramey on the ensuing inbounds pass.  Ramey knocked down both charity tosses to push the Foresters’ lead back to three at 62-59.  Following a Panther timeout, point guard Tristin Miracle drove and dished to Amanda Ritzler who nailed a three to tie it with 14 seconds to go.  Three second later, HU turned the ball over trying to bring the ball up the floor.  Huntington deflected a pass into the post out of bounds with :03 showing on the clock.  Wertman got loose on the inbounds play and sank the game-winner with a second to spare.

Huntington’s Amy Berry led all scorers in the game with 26 points on 10-16 shooting. Ramey added 17 points and five assists.  Wertman and Ritzler each had 15 to lead the Panthers.
