11.15.05 - The Huntington University Foresters overcame a six-point deficit early in the second half and then held on down the stretch for the 70-69 win over the Aquinas College Saints.

A layup by Aquinas’ Joslyn Narber gave the Saints a 41-35 lead at the 16:38 mark of the second half.  Huntington’s Janna Knisely answered with two of her team-high 19 points, which ignited a 25-11 HU run over the next nine minutes giving the Foresters a 60-52 lead with 7:46 left to play.  Aquinas turned up the heat defensively and climbed back into the game and pulled within one at 66-65 on a Jackie Braspenninx layup in the paint with 2:41 to go. Knisely hit two free throws to push HU’s lead back to 68-65, but Braspenninx again cut the margin to one with an inside jumper.  On the Foresters’ next possession, Kendra Stahl missed a runner in the lane.  HU’s Betsey Bean stole the rebound from the Saints’ Claire Hogan and put the ball in off the glass to give Huntington a 70-67 lead with: 35 on the clock.  Aquinas again found Braspenninx in the paint with 26 ticks left.  The Saints fouled Amy Berry with six seconds left, but Berry missed both charity tosses.  Ashley Heuvelman rebounded the second miss and Whitney Marsh’s baseline jumper was off the mark at the buzzer.

Joining Knisely in double figures for Huntington were Bean, who had a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards, Berry with 11 points and Jessica Ramey and Lauren Davenport with 10 each.  Braspenninx took top scoring honors for Aquinas with 19 points and five rebounds.   Joslyn Narber added 17 points and six rebounds.  The Foresters shot 44% from the field and held the Saints to 40% shooting.  Aquinas won the battle of the boards 39-34.  With the win, HU pulls even at 2-2 on the season.
