02.04.06 - The Foresters (14-10) came up with some of the best team defense of the season to pull off the 70-50 upset over the NAIA 23rd-ranked Marian College Knights (13-8).  In the first half, Huntington forced the Knights into two scoreless droughts, one through the first five minutes of the game and then another immediate seven minute stretch until Marian’s Brittany Meyer finally hit a short jumper to make it 18-4 at the 8:14 mark.  The Foresters also forced the Knights into 19 turnovers and held them to six field goals in the first half to take a 33-13 lead at the break.

The two teams traded baskets over the first five minutes of the second half with HU continuing to own a 20-point lead at 41-21.  The Foresters then outscored the Knights 10-3 over the next three minutes to push its lead to 27 at 51-24.  Huntington’s defense continued to get critical stops and maintained its 20–point advantage until a trey by Jessica Carr brought Marian within 19 with 38 seconds left in the game.

Huntington’s Jessica Ramey, who needed nine points in the game to score the 1000th point of her career, finished the game with 23 on 8-11 shooting, including 2-2 from behind the arc and 5-5 from the line.  She also dished out seven assists in the game.  Also in double figures for the Foresters was Amy Berry with 21 and Betsey Bean with 11.  Whitney Frame led the Knights with 15 points and Carr added 10 off the bench.  Huntington shot 50% (23-46) in the game and held the Knights to 33% shooting (17-51).  Marian won the battle of the boards 36-27.  The win gives the Foresters a two-game lead over the fourth place teams in the conference standings with their 9-4 record.
