Betsey Bean matched her career-high of 23 points to lead the
Foresters past Goshen College 64-48. With the Maple Leafs throwing
every imaginable defense at HU, the Foresters struggled to find a
rhythm offensively throughout most of the first half.
Fortunately, Bean was able to find the range early and often scoring
14 of HU's first 22 points. It wasn't until the last 2:30 of
the half that the Foresters were finally able to get some breathing
room. Jessica Ramey got loose and scored six unanswered points
in transition to give HU a 28-18 lead at the break.
Goshen's Kelsy
McKee knocked down a trey to start the second stanza, but Bean
answered with a jumper at the top to become the second Forester in
as many games to reach the 1000-point milestone of her career. The
Maple Leafs long-range shooting kept them within striking distance
as a Rachel Canen's three cut Goshen's deficit to eight at 44-36
with just under ten minutes to go. The Foresters pushed the
margin back to 14 with a 6-0 run with 6:09 on the clock. The
Maple Leafs got it back to 50-40, but a 10-2 HU run over a two and a
half minute span gave the Foresters their largest lead of the game
at 60-42, effectively putting the game out of reach.
Joining Bean in
double figures for HU was Ramey with 16 points and nine assists and
Amy Berry with 13 points and five boards. McKee paced the
Maple Leafs with 14 and Canen added 13. The Foresters shot 48%
(23-48) for the game while holding Goshen to 40% (20-50) shooting.
HU's defense also forced the Maple Leafs into 30 turnovers in the
game. The win moves the Foresters into second place in the
conference standings with their 10-4 record and gives them a 15-10
record overall.
