The Women's Basketball Coaches
Association (WBCA) announced its 2004-2005 Academic Top 25 Team
Honor Roll for NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III,
NAIA and Junior College/Community College. The awards
recognize teams throughout the nation that have the highest grade
point averages (GPA) for the 2004-05 season based upon nominations
submitted by WBCA-member coaches.
The Huntington
University women's basketball team was the lone Indiana institution
to appear on the NAIA list. The Foresters were 15th with their
3.40 grade point average. It is the seventh time in nine years
that the women have earned the honor. "It is an honor that
reflects the type of student-athlete we try to recruit," said head
coach Lori Culler. "We want players that have been successful
in the classroom as well as on the basketball court during their
high school career. When they arrive at HU, they already know
what it takes; it's just a matter of each one maximizing their
God-given talents."
Concordia (NE)
University continued its strangle-hold on the top spot for the sixth
year in a row with its 3.786 team gpa.
