Huntington University women’s basketball coach, Lori Culler,
announced the addition of two more quality recruits to an already
strong incoming class for the upcoming fall. The DeKalb High School
duo of Courtney Beerbower and Jenna Donaldson has chosen to continue
their careers in the Foresters’ program. The pair, who led the
Barons to two Northeast Hoosier Conference (NHC) titles, two
Sectional Championships and an impressive 40-7 record over the last
two years, brings tremendous success with them to HU.
"We are extremely
pleased that Courtney and Jenna both chose HU," said Culler.
"They both have had outstanding high school careers and are the kind
of quality individuals that any coach would want on the roster."
Beerbower, a 5’11 center, averaged a
team-high 19.1 points and 8.3 boards for this year’s 22-2 Barons.
During her career at DeKalb, she tallied 908 points, 508 rebounds
and shot 59% from the floor. Her success on the court earned her
numerous honors and accolades throughout her career. Beerbower was
a three-time All-NHC and All-KPC selection and was
invited to the Top 100 Underclassmen workout. As a senior this
year, she was listed as a Top 100 Senior, was invited to participate
in the Top 40 workout, was selected to the Nancy Rehm All-Star team
and was an Honorable Mention All-State honoree.
"Courtney has
proven that she can be a force in the paint," said Culler.
"She has a nose for the ball and can finish with either hand.
With DeKalb's up-tempo style of play, she also has shown the ability
to run the floor and finish in transition. Combine Courtney's
competitiveness with these other talents and you have the makings
for an even more successful college career."
Donaldson is a versatile 5’11 wing who averaged 12.9 points, 6.8
rebounds and 4.6 assists for the Barons this season. The
sharp-shooting southpaw also shot 47%
from behind the arc and 84% at the line. Donaldson finished
her career at DeKalb with 707 points, 331 boards and a 3.1 assists
per game average. During her final two seasons, she earned
All-NHC and All-KPC honors and this year as a senior, she was chosen
to play in the Nancy Rehm All-Star game.
"I would call Jenna
a quiet assassin," said Culler. "She's doesn't have a flashy
game, but it's a jumper here, a lay-up there, a three, a putback and
then you realize she's already in double figures at the half.
Jenna is adept at shooting the three, she can also handle the ball
and she can post and score inside as well. It is that type of
versatility that makes her a great catch for us." |
