08.02.06 - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its 2005-2006 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll for NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College/Community College, and the Huntington University Foresters were among the honorees. The awards recognize the nation's highest team grade point averages (gpa) for the 2005-2006 season based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches.

The Huntington University women's basketball team was fifth on the NAIA list with its 3.532 gpa. It is the eighth time in ten years that the Foresters have appeared on the Honor Roll and the second highest ranking for a Forester team during the ten years. The 1997-98 squad placed fourth with a gpa of 3.480.  "It is an honor that reflects the type of student-athlete we try to recruit," said head coach Lori Culler.  "We want players that have been successful in the classroom as well as on the basketball court during their high school career.  When they arrive at HU, they already know what it takes; it's just a matter of each one maximizing their God-given talents."

Dana College took top honors within the NAIA this year with a 3.585 team gpa.  For a complete list of all honorees, visit www.wbca.org.
