Sophomore guard Erica
Yost scored 11 of the Foresters' final 15 points to lead HU to a
come-from-behind 62-59 win over Spring Arbor University.
The Foresters
struggled at the offensive end throughout the game and were down
53-42 with just under six minutes to play. Jenna Donaldson hit
a jumper from the right baseline at the 5:37 mark which seemed to
ignite HU's offense. The Foresters stole the ball from Lyndsey
Norman on the Cougar's next possession and Lauren Davenport
converted on a 3-point play to cut the deficit to 53-47. A
back-to-back two and three from Yost and two free throws from
Courtney Beerbower completed the Foresters' comeback giving them
their first lead of the game at 54-53 with 3:12 to play.
The two teams traded baskets on each of their next
three possessions with Yost again contributing a two and a three,
but it was Davenport who gave HU the lead for good at 61-59 on a
driving layup with 40 seconds to go. Spring Arbor had two
chances to tie it before turning the ball over with 5.3 seconds left
on the clock. The Cougars fouled Yost on the inbounds pass and
she hit the second to put HU up 62-59. Norman's running
3-point attempt at the buzzer bounced off the front of the rim
giving the Foresters the victory.
Yost took game-high honors with 19 points on 6-10
shooting, including 4-5 from behind the arc for the Foresters.
Davenport added 14 points and seven assists. Kristen Miller
paced Spring Arbor with 16 points. Jen Moor chipped in 13
points and Kara Buehrer had 10.
Although the Cougars hit six more field goals than HU
and shot 45% to just 34% for the Foresters, HU went 6-10 from
3-point range and out-scored Spring Arbor 18-9 at the line.
With the win, the women
improve to 10-7 on the season and 2-3 in the MCC.
