Sophomore
forward Jenna Donaldson
tied her career-high
with 27 points on 10-17 shooting to lead the Foresters past Grace
College (9-12, 1-7) 75-66. With the win, HU (13-7) laid claim
to third place in the MCC with their 5-3 record at the mid-point of
conference play.
Neither team was able to take
control of the game through the first 13 minutes of the game which
saw six ties and four lead changes, but with the score knotted at
19-19 at the 6:21 mark, Donaldson took over the game. She
scored seven consecutive points and 11 of the Foresters' final 13 of
the half to give HU a 32-23 lead at the break.
Donaldson picked up where she left
off to begin the second half scoring HU's first four points to push
the Foresters' advantage to 13 and at the 11:55 mark, another
Donaldson field goal gave HU its largest lead of the game at 52-36.
The Foresters were then whistled for three uncharacteristic
traveling calls which allowed Grace to gain some momentum. The
Lancers put together a 15-5 run to pull within 57-51 at the 5:10
mark, but back-to-back sets of free throws from Courtney Beerbower
and a three from Donaldson pushed HU's lead back to double digits
with four minutes to play. The Foresters kept Grace from
getting any closer over the next three minutes and they hit 5-6
charity tosses down the stretch to earn the win.
Joining Donaldson in double figures for HU was Beerbower with 16
points and a game-high nine rebounds and Lauren Davenport with 15 points.
Demetria Eley led four Lancers in double figures with 20 points.
Megan Arns finished with 15, Kiera Gray had 11 and Lauren Zeltwanger
added 10.
