11.09.07 - The Foresters used a stingy defense to pull away from the Wilberforce University Bulldogs in the second half and cruised to the 74-50 win to claim the Huntington University Vista Inn Tournament title.

HU jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, but allowed Wilberforce to keep close with a couple turnovers.  The Bulldogs took their only lead of the game at 12-11 on a Tamarra Moss lay-up at the 9:45 mark.  The Foresters answered back with a 9-2 run to go up 20-14.  Wilberforce got back within two at 23-21 with 1:24 to go in the half, but HU scored the final six points of the half to take a 29-21 lead at intermission despite shooting just 27% from the field.

The Bulldogs kept within striking distance through the early stages of the second half and were still within five at 35-30 with 14:35 to play.  HU then put the clamps on defensively and held Wilberforce scoreless over the next five minutes which led to a 14-0 Forester run and a 49-30 advantage midway through the half.  HU as able to maintain the lead down the stretch and won going away.

Huntington’s Jenna Donaldson, the tournament MVP, took team-high honors with 18 points and she grabbed six rebounds.  Kendra Stahl chipped in 15 and Lauren Davenport and Erica Yost each added 10.  Wilberforce’s Janicia Anderson took game-high honors with 23 points and 13 rebounds in the contest.

After a dismal first half of shooting, HU hit for 44% in the second to finish the game at 34.5% (20-58).  The Bulldogs were 23-62 from the field for 37.1%.  The Foresters outscored Wilberforce 30-2 at the foul line.  Joining Donaldson on the All-Tournament team was HU’s Courtney Beerbower, Wilberforce’s Anderson and Moss,  Northwestern Ohio’s Abbie Clifton and Trinity Christian's Brittany Kolenbrander.
