- The Foresters
were on the road at
Indiana Tech for their season opener and put together a solid
performance to earn the 67-47 victory over the Warriors.
HU (1-0) first had to shake off some
nerves to overcome an early 7-2 deficit. Midway through the
period, two Jenna Donaldson free throws gave HU a 16-14 lead that
they would not give up. Behind Donaldson's 13 first half
points, the Foresters were able to build a 34-22 half-time lead.
Indiana Tech got as close as seven
in the early minutes of the second half, but HU quickly ended the
threat, pushing the lead back to double digits to stay.
Donaldson led all scorers in the
game with 19 points and HU's Courtney Beerbower added a
double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Lauren Davenport
came close to her own double-double with eight points and nine
assists for the Foresters. Joyell Compton was the lone Warrior
to reach double figures with 11.
After shooting 50% in the first
half, HU finished at 46.3% for the game. The Foresters won the
battle of the boards 34-29 and forced Indiana Tech into 28
turnovers.
