02.23.08 - Grace College took down the Huntington University Foresters 72-64 in the regular season finale.  Huntington struggled from the field the entire game shooting a paltry 36% for the game.

The Foresters (16-12, 8-8) overcame an early seven-point deficit and knotted things up at 17 midway through the half.  Grace made a small run late in the period to go back up five at 29-24, but a 7-2 Huntington spurt to close out the half gave the Foresters a 33-31 edge at the break.

Things remained tight through the first 14 minutes of second half with seven ties and six lead changes.  At the 6:39 mark, a Courtney Beerbower three-point play gave the Foresters their largest lead of the game at 52-49.  Huntington then turned the ball over on four of their next five possessions and Grace took advantage.

The Lancers were within one at 54-53 when Lauren Zeltwanger connected on back-to-back treys to give Grace a 59-54 lead with four minutes to play.  Huntington had two attempts to cut into the Lancer’s lead, but couldn’t find the bottom of the net.  Heidi Messer knocked down two free throws at Grace’s end to increase the margin to seven at 61-54.  Two Lauren Davenport charity tosses cut it to five with 1:27 to go, but Megan Arns answered it with a lay-up as the shot clock buzzer sounded.  Following another Forester turnover, Zeltwanger completed a three-point play with 39 seconds left to put the game out of reach.

Grace’s Zeltwanger took game-high honors with 18 in the game.  Arns chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds.  Davenport and Jenna Donaldson each scored 16 to lead Huntington and Beerbower finished with 14 points and a game-high 14 boards.
