05.16.08 - Bluffton High School dual sport athlete, Haleigh Osborne, will continue her basketball and track careers at Huntington University this fall.  As a senior on the basketball court, Osborne shot 47.4% from the field and averaged 10.4 points and 9.1 rebounds for the 13-9 Tigers.  She was a two-time Second Team Allen County Athletic Conference (ACAC) selection and as a senior, she was invited to tryout for the Nancy Rehm All-Star team.  She finished her career with 464 points and 427 rebounds, which is 10th on Bluffton’s all-time list.

“Haleigh is a nice addition to our program,” said basketball coach Lori Culler.  “She is a very strong and physical post player who rebounds well.  As she gains experience, she will develop into a solid collegiate player.”

Osborne also excels as a track and field athlete at Bluffton.  During her junior campaign, she broke the school record in the shot put and was the shot put champion in the ACAC meet.  As a senior, she re-broke her own school record in the shot with a toss of 39-00.75, and this time swept the throwing events in the conference meet.  She also was the Sectional Champion in both throwing events and hopes to compete well in next week’s Regional competition.

Huntington University track coach, Tom King, is looking forward to having Osborne join his program.  “Haleigh has been very successful in her high school career and will be an asset as a thrower in our program.  She has a lot of potential, and I’m anxious to introduce her to the hammer which would be a new event for her.”

Haleigh is the daughter of Tom and Sheila Osborne of Bluffton, Indiana.
