12.16.08 - The NAIA 6th-ranked Huntington University Foresters picked up their 10th win of the season with a 66-49 victory over Viterbo University (WI).

Huntington (10-2) got off to a sluggish start and quickly fell behind the V-Hawks (7-6) by as many as seven at 11-4 three and a half minutes into the game.  From there the Foresters scored on their next 12 of 13 possessions to take a 28-18 lead at the 9:40 mark.  Huntington then held the V-Hawks to just one field goal for nearly five minutes to expand the margin to as many as 16 at 36-20 with five minutes left in the half.  The Foresters headed to the locker room up 41-27.

Huntington again got off to a slow start to begin the second half which allowed Viterbo to close to within seven at 43-36.  The Foresters’ defense finally picked up and they held the V-Hawks scoreless for eight minutes.  As a result of Viterbo’s drought, Huntington’s lead ballooned to as many as 24 at 60-36 with 6:35 left to play.  The Foresters then cruised to the 66-49 victory.

Jenna Donaldson paced Huntington with 15 points and five assists.  Courtney Beerbower finished with 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds and Brita Kuiper chipped in 12 points off the bench.  The V-Hawks were led by Audrah Berger’s 15 points.  Katina Mandylaris added 14 points and eight boards and Joni Stanek finished with 13 points.

The Foresters went 26-54 from the field for 48.1% while Viterbo was 21-55 for 38.2%.  Huntington out-rebounded the V-Hawks 39-29.
