The NAIA 6th-ranked Huntington University Foresters picked up their
10th win of the season with a 66-49 victory over Viterbo
University (WI).
Huntington (10-2) got off to a sluggish start and quickly fell
behind the V-Hawks (7-6) by as many as seven at 11-4 three and a
half minutes into the game. From there the Foresters scored on
their next 12 of 13 possessions to take a 28-18 lead at the 9:40
mark. Huntington then held the V-Hawks to just one field goal for
nearly five minutes to expand the margin to as many as 16 at 36-20
with five minutes left in the half. The Foresters headed to the
locker room up 41-27.
Huntington again got off to a slow start to begin the second half
which allowed Viterbo to close to within seven at 43-36. The
Foresters’ defense finally picked up and they held the V-Hawks
scoreless for eight minutes. As a result of Viterbo’s drought,
Huntington’s lead ballooned to as many as 24 at 60-36 with 6:35 left
to play. The Foresters then cruised to the 66-49 victory.
Jenna Donaldson paced Huntington with 15 points and five assists.
Courtney Beerbower finished with 12 points and a game-high eight
rebounds and Brita Kuiper chipped in 12 points off the bench. The
V-Hawks were led by Audrah Berger’s 15 points. Katina Mandylaris
added 14 points and eight boards and Joni Stanek finished with 13
points.
The Foresters went 26-54 from the field for 48.1% while Viterbo was
21-55 for 38.2%. Huntington out-rebounded the V-Hawks 39-29.
