After falling to Goshen College on the road back in January, the
NAIA 11th-ranked Huntington University Foresters left no
doubt this time blowing out the Maple Leafs 74-46. However, the
game did come to an unusual end. For the second time this season,
the Merillat Complex lost power as the game was drawing to a close.
Haleigh Osborne rebounded a Goshen miss just as the lights went out
with 1:27 to go in the contest. With it seeming unlikely that the
power could be restored quickly, the Maple Leafs conceded the game
with the 74-46 final.
Early in the contest, the Foresters seemed a little tight from the
field, but played Goshen to a 5-5 tie five minutes into the
contest. Huntington finally strung together seven consecutive
points to take the lead for good. Another 8-0 spurt capped off by a
Lauren Davenport steal and Sarah Miller layup put the Foresters up
double digits at 25-11 with 7:58 left in the period. Despite a
14-25 effort at the line, Huntington was still able to take an
18-point advantage to intermission.
As the second half began, the Foresters continued to pour it on
leading by as many as 30 at the 11:51 mark and ended with the
28-point win when the lights went out.
Jenna Donaldson and Kelsey Green both scored 14 points to pace the
Foresters and Brita Kuiper chipped in 10 off the bench. Green also
took game-high honors with 12 rebounds to record her first career
double-double. Cassie Greives topped all scorers in the game with
19 points for Goshen.
Huntington went 28 for 60 from the field for 47% while the Leafs
were 17 for 43 for 40%. The Foresters won the battle of the boards
43-27 and forced Goshen into 28 turnovers.
