- After putting on a first half clinic on offensive proficiency,
the Foresters (17-7, 8-4) cruised to an 88-62 victory over the Pilot
of Bethel College (18-9, 7-6).
HU sprinted out of the gates to take a 14-0 lead behind the play of
an active Courtney Beerbower who scored on a put back from a missed
free throw and then beat her defender up the floor twice to score on
transition layups. After being hit by the Forester tornado,
the Pilots picked up the pieces and proceeded to string together an
11-5 run to cut the deficit to 19-11 at the 12:22 mark but they
would get no closer. The Foresters spent the next twelve
minutes dominating the Pilots in every statistic for the half.
They shot 60% from the field, including a 6-for-10 performance
behind the arc, while holding the Pilots to 30% shooting. HU
also dominated the boards collecting 23 rebounds to Bethel's 12.
By halftime the Foresters had taken a commanding 51-22 lead.
Known as a three-point shooting team, the Pilots lived up to their
reputation by knocking down back-to-back threes to cut HU's lead to
51-28 within the first minute and a half of the second period.
After a quick timeout to regroup, the Foresters went back to
business, pushing their lead to 30 at the 15:04 mark after Jenna
Donaldson drilled a long three. The Pilots never got closer
than 26 points as Huntington kept the pressure up on both ends to
claim the convincing win.
Sarah Miller paced the Foresters with 19 points and four assists.
Donaldson was 6-for-7 from the field, including 3-for-3 behind the
arc, for 16 points while Beerbower finished with 14. Lauren
Meese chipped in 10 points and grabbed a game-high 8 boards.
Bekeh Basinger was the only Pilot to score in double digits with 12
points.
