Season
The Marian College Knights brought the Foresters’ season to a close with their 70-64 win in the first round of the Mid-Central Conference tournament. HC was able to hang around, keeping within striking distance for the majority of the game, but couldn’t come up with the big baskets to get over the hump. Down 60-58 with just under five minutes to play, HC had a chance to tie the score, but a Betsey Bean jumper was off the mark and Kristi Koselke scored on a driving lay-up at the other end to squelch the Foresters’ threat. The Knights went 7-8 from the line in the final 2:37 to seal the victory. Bean led four Foresters in double figures with 17 points. Holly Harris gave HC a much-needed lift off the bench with 16 points and 3 steals, and Jessica Ramey added 13 points and 3 assists. Senior Lane Allen, playing her final game in a Forester uniform, finished with 10 points. Koselke scored 17 to led the Knights. With the loss, the women conclude their season with a 16-13 record. Skid In a defensive seesaw battle, it was the Foresters that made the last defensive stand to end a three-game losing skid, defeating the Marian College Knights 58-55. As has been the case lately, HC got off to a slow start offensively, falling behind 14-6 midway through the first half, but Holly Harris came off the bench to give the Foresters a lift. She scored seven of her nine points over a six minute span to help HC get back in the game and take a 26-25 lead at the break. In the second half, back-to-back turnovers by HC led to two quick baskets for Marian and gave them a 50-43 lead with 7:01 left in the game. Following a Forester timeout, Betsey Bean ignited a 12-2 run hitting three 3-pointers in a two and a half minute stretch that gave HC a 55-52 lead with 4:20 left in the game. A Lane Allen free throw put the Foresters up four, but Marian's Lindsey Pride cut it to 56-54 on a bank shot in the paint. Brooke Reed hit one of two free throws with 2:32 left to bring the Knights within one at 56-55, but Bean answered at the other end with the final two points of the game to give HC a 58-55 lead with 1:15 left to play. The two teams traded misses and Lane Allen was fouled after rebounding a Pride 3-point attempt that was off the mark with :09 showing on the clock. Allen missed both free throws, but the Forester defense keep Marian from getting off a shot before the buzzer sounded. Allen led all scorers in the game with 18 points and added 7 rebounds. HC again struggled from the field shooting 28% in the first half, but managed to keep within striking distance. After the break, the Maple Leafs' barrage began immediately as they steadily increased their lead to as many and 24. Goshen finished the half going 18-27 from the field, including 6-10 from behind the arc, to hand the Foresters their third straight loss. Shooting Woes Continue Another poor shooting performance gave the University of St. Francis Cougars the edge they needed to beat the Foresters 70-67 in overtime. After shooting just 29% in the first half, HC found themselves down 30-19 at the break. Things didn't get much better in the second half for the Foresters as they were out-scored 10-3 over the first five minutes of the half. A layup by Jessah Martin with 14:09 left began a Forester rally that brought them all the way back to tie the score at 57 on a long 3-pointer by Jessica Ramey with :05 left in regulation. The Foresters batted away an inbounds pass as time expired. In the overtime, Huntington’s Betsey Bean knocked down a trey to tie the score at 64, but Nichole Behnke answered with a deuce to give the Cougars the 66-64 lead with :44 left. The Foresters came up empty at the offensive end and had to foul. St. Francis hit 3-4 charity tosses in the final 20 seconds to seal the win. HC finished the game shooting a meager 31% from the field. USF’s Nikki Lewis led all scorers in the game with 17 points off the bench. All five of Huntington’s starters were in double figures with Jessica Ramey leading the way with 15. Lane Allen chipped in 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Foresters. The loss drops the Foresters to 13-9 on the season and 4-4 in the MCC. Box Score IWU Snaps HC's Win
Streak In the battle for first place in the MCC, the host Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats knocked off the Foresters 64-42, snapping their four-game win streak. The loss drops HC into a five-way tie for second place at the midpoint of the conference schedule with their 4-3 record. After jumping out to an 8-2 lead, the Foresters managed just five more field goals the rest of the half and were down 34-19 at the break. The dismal shooting continued throughout the second half and kept HC from mounting a comeback. The Foresters finished the game hitting just 29% of their field goal attempts. Jessica Ramey and Lane Allen each scored 12 points to lead HC and Liz Howerth finished with 12 points to lead the Wildcats. With the loss, the women fall to 13-8 on the season. Box Score HC Upsets #25
Taylor The Foresters used some stingy defense to knock off the NAIA Division II 25th-ranked Taylor University Trojans 68-58. After trailing by as many as 9 points in the first half, HC went on a 15-1 run over the final 6:01 of the half to take a 38-35 lead into the locker room. Early in the second half, Taylor knotted the score at 41, but the Foresters responded with a 25-7 run to give HC its biggest lead of the game at 64-48 with 6:32 remaining. The Trojans cut it to 64-54 on a jumper by Liz Plass with 2:47 left on the clock, but Janna Knisely and Jessica Ramey each hit two free throws down the stretch to seal the win. HC’s backcourt duo of Ramey and Jessah Martin led the Foresters with 18 and 17 points respectively. Knisely added 9 points and 7 rebounds for the Foresters. Melanie Brumbaugh took game-high honors with 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Trojans. Box Score Foresters Win
Ugly Despite severe shooting woes, the Foresters managed to find enough offense to grab another road win, defeating Grace College 64-57. After shooting a miserable 30.3% (10-33) from the field, HC found itself down 30-28 at the half. Unfortunately, things did not improve much offensively after the break as the Foresters managed just 31.4% (11-35) from the field, but the Foresters' defense and offensive rebounding gave them the opportunity to pull off the win. Down 57-53 with just under three minutes to play, Janna Knisely scored four consecutive points as a result of two Forester offensive rebounds to tie the score at 57. After another defensive stand, Jessah Martin knocked down a three with a minute to play to give HC the 60-57 lead. On Grace's next possession, the Lancers ran a play to get Theresa Clark a 3-point attempt, but Knisely stepped out and partially blocked the shot. The Lancers then fouled Betsey Bean who calmly sank both ends of the one and one to put the game out of reach. A Forester steal led to two more free throws for Knisely to complete the scoring. HC's Martin finished the game with a game-high 19 points. Knisely went 6-10 from the field and 3-4 from the line for 15 points, and Lane Allen added a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Grace's Tracie Mezera had 16 points to lead the Lancers. The win gives the women a 12-7 record overall and a 3-2 record in the MCC as well as a share of first place with five other teams. Box Score Foresters Down
17th-Ranked Pilots The Foresters put together their best sustained effort of the season using solid team defense and timely shooting to down the NAIA Division II 17th-ranked Bethel College Pilots 65-61. After a few lead changes early, HC took a 13-12 lead on a 3-point basket by Betsey Bean with 11:01 on the clock and gradually built the lead to a 29-22 margin at the break. In the second half, HC's lead remained between 3-8 points until Chasity Zellers' trey brought Bethel to within one at 54-53. But as was the case throughout the game, the Foresters answered with a bomb from downtown by Jessica Ramey to get the lead back to four. Down the stretch, HC hit 6 out of 8 free throws to get the upset on the road. The Foresters shot 47.3% for the game while holding the Pilots to just 33.3%. Bean led all scorers in the game with 18 points on 7-11 shooting, including 3-5 from behind the arc. Janna Knisely and Lane Allen added 14 and 13 points respectively and each grabbed a team-high 6 rebounds. Kristen Sordelet had a team-leading 13 points for Bethel. With the win, the women move to 11-7 on the season and even their conference record at 2-2. Box Score HC Survives in 2OT After a sluggish first half in which the Foresters (10-7, 1-2) trailed by as many as 11 points, they clawed their way back to defeat the Marian College Knights (10-6, 1-2) in a double overtime thriller, 75-72. Down 29-18 with 4:21 left in the first half, the Foresters scored eight unanswered points to close out the half, trimming the Knights' lead to 29-26 at the break. Throughout much of the second half, Marian was able to maintain a 4-6 point advantage over HC until Amy Berry's two free throws gave the Foresters a 47-46 lead with just under eight minutes left in regulation. HC held a 56-53 lead with 2:16 to play, but the Knights forged ahead again at 60-58 on a basket by Lindsey Pride with just :46 left. Following a Forester timeout, Betsey Bean drove the lane and was fouled with 21 ticks left on the clock. Bean nailed both free throws and HC's defense kept Marian from getting a shot off as time expired. In the first overtime, the Foresters battled back from a three-point deficit to knot the score at 68 on a Jessica Ramey free throw with :22 on the clock. Again HC's defense rose to the challenge and surrendered only a 3-point heave by center Allison Harris as time ran out. The Foresters took the lead in the second overtime on a jumper from Lane Allen, but Marian's Pride tied it with a putback off an offensive rebound. Bean's turnaround jumper on the baseline then gave the Foresters the lead for good. A free throw by Ramey put HC up 75-72 with 15 seconds to play and Kristi Koselke's 3-point attempt to tie was off the mark giving the Foresters the hard-fought victory. Allen lead four Foresters in double figures with 23 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Bean, Berry, and Jessah Martin each added 11. Pride led the Marian attack with 23 points and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds. With the win, the women improve to 10-7 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. Box Score Late Run Falls
Short For Foresters The Foresters put together a late run to get back in the game, but the Maple Leafs of Goshen College withstood the surge and escaped with the 69-67 win. Down 13 with just under seven minutes to play, the Foresters used a half court trap to swing the momentum. HC forced the Maple Leafs into two turnovers and 4 consecutive missed shots which led to a Forester 10-0 run for over the next three minutes. Goshen's Lyndsay Fisher stopped the run with a trey from the corner to put the Maple Leafs back up 65-59. HC's Betsey Bean brought the margin back to 3 with a three-pointer of her own and Jessah Martin's jumper with :58 on the clock trimmed Goshen's lead to 65-64. But the Maple Leafs went 4-4 from the charity stripe in the final minute to cut the Foresters' comeback short. Goshen's Erin McDugle led all scorers in the game with 23 points. Fisher and Candice Williams finished with 14 and 12 points respectively for the Maple Leafs. Lane Allen led a trio of Foresters in scoring with her 22 points in the game. Amy Berry contributed 20 points off the bench and Bean added 10 points and 8 rebounds for HC. With the loss, the women fall to 9-7 on the season and 0-2 in the MCC. Box Score Cold Shooting
Costs Foresters On opening night in Mid-Central Conference play, the Foresters' shooting was as frigid as the temperatures outside, leading to a 65-56 loss to the Cougars of St. Francis. In the first half neither team was able to get into a rhythm offensively as the defense dominated the half. The Cougars held a slim 22-21 lead heading into the break. The second half was a seesaw battle until Amanda Engleking and Chivon Keppeler both got hot for the Cougars. Behind Engleking's 3-point shooting and Keppeler's inside game, St. Francis was able to build a 60-49 lead with about five minutes to play that proved too much for HC to overcome. The Foresters managed just 34.9% shooting for the game, while the Cougars shot 48.9%. Keppeler and Engleking took top scoring honors in the game with 21 and 17 points respectively. HC's Jessica Ramey scored a team-high 16 points to led a trio of Foresters in double digits. Lane Allen had 13 points and a team-leading 8 rebounds in the game and Janna Knisely finished with 10 points. The loss drops the women to 9-6 on the season and 0-1 in the MCC. Box Score Defense
Lifts HC to Win After a two-week lay-off, the Forester offense looked a little rusty, but the defense puts the clamps on the Saints of Siena Heights University and lifted HC to the 60-39 victory. Sloppy play in the first half that included 14 Forester turnovers and 19% shooting (7-36) by the Saints, led to a low scoring half with HC up 24-16 at the break. In the second half, HC took better care of the ball and continued to hold the Saints at bay on the defensive end, building as much as a 22-point lead on its way to the win. HC's Janna Knisely led all scorers in the game with 15 points on 5-7 shooting from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line. Jessica Ramey and Jessah Martin also were in double figures for HC with 14 and 12 points respectively. Lane Allen chipped in 9 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the Foresters. A Lane Allen bank shot at the buzzer sent the Foresters to the locker room with a 39-32 advantage, but Manchester went on a 10-4 run to start the second half and cut the Foresters' lead to 43-42. Box Score Pumas Rout HC The Pumas of St. Joseph's College jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back as they routed HC 89-64. St. Joseph's pressure defense limited the Foresters to 29% shooting on the night while HC's defense struggled to slow the Puma's fast-paced, attacking offense. St. Joseph's also won the battle of the boards 52-30. Jessica Ramey scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead the Foresters and Amy Berry contributed 13 points off the bench. Heather Allen led four Pumas in double figures with 18. The loss drops the women to 6-5 on the season. Box Score Ramey MCC Player

Win A stifling zone defense put the clamps on Spring Arbor's offense and lifted the Foresters to a 64-50 win over the Cougars. After trading baskets early in the game, HC took a 9-6 lead on a Janna Knisely trey and led 37-27 lead at the half. The Cougars cut it to six at 41-35 early in the second half, but HC responded with an 11-0 run over a four minute span to end the threat. Down the stretch, the Foresters used their defense to limit Spring Arbor to just one point over the final six minutes of the game until Hannah Kotsko hit a 3-pointer with :32 left on the clock. Knisely led all scorers in the game with a career-high 18 points and added eight rebounds. Jessica Ramey chipped in 11 points and 8 assists, while Lane Allen had 10 points and a team-high 9 rebounds. Kristen VanValin led the Cougars with 12 points. The win evens the women's record at 4-4 for the season. Box Score Foresters Win in 2OT After a miserable start that led to an immediate 14-2 deficit, the Foresters rallied to beat the Saints of Aquinas College 94-86 in double overtime. HC had cut Aquinas' lead to eight at the half, but had made up no more ground through the first five minutes of the second half. The Foresters then went on a 20-4 run over the next seven minutes to take an 65-57 lead only to have it slip through their fingers. Betsey Bean's two free throws with :02 left in regulation tied the game at 73 to send the game to the first overtime. Aquinas' Kim Pomeroy put back a Mandi DeGroot miss with :04 left to knot the score at 79 forcing another extra period. HC got the tip to start the second overtime and took the lead for good when Jessica Ramey hit a lay-up, was fouled, and converted the free throw. The Foresters went on to out-scored the Saints 15-6 with all five players contributing in the scoring. Ramey scored 24 of her team-high 27 points in the second half and overtimes to spark the Forester comeback. She also added a team-leading five assists and had 8 rebounds. Lane Allen finished with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Bean recorded her second consecutive double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds, and Jessah Martin contributed 17 points in the win. Aquinas' Jackie Braspenninx dominated in the paint to the tune of 34 points to take game-high honors. "This is another testament to the competitiveness of this team," said Coach Culler. "It's a big win for us and hopefully one that will give us some momentum." The win raises the women's record to 3-4 on the season. Box Score Foresters'
Upset Bid Falls Short The Foresters traveled to Chicago to take on the 23rd-ranked, NAIA Division I St. Xavier University and saw their upset bid fall short losing 84-79. HC got off to a quick start surprising the Cougars with a 20-11 run to start the game, but costly turnovers against their full court pressure changed the momentum and gave the Cougars a 37-34 half-time lead. Early in the second half, the two teams traded baskets, but the Cougars were again able to capitalize on Forester miscues and missed free throws to build a double digit lead. But as has been characteristic of this young Forester squad, they fought back to cut the lead to 81-77 with 1:27 left in the game. They had a chance to cut further into the deficit, but a turnover and two missed field goals gave the Cougars the opportunity to seal the win at the line. Betsey Bean had a career game, scoring 20 points and grabbing 17 rebounds for HC. Amy Berry came of the bench and added 15 points and 7 rebounds. Jessica Ramey and Lane Allen also reached double figures with 13 and 10 points respectively. Jackie DiMaggio and Stephanie Wright each had 16 to lead the Cougars. "We definitely gave St. Xavier all they could handle, but it is disappointing to not get the win," said Coach Culler. "These kinds of games are helping us gain some great experience though which will help us in the long run." Box Score Foresters
Get Road Win The Foresters used hot shooting to earn their first road win of the season, an 80-70 victory over Indiana University South Bend. The Titans returned to the floor and immediately began to chisel away at the Foresters' lead, cutting it to 52-50 with just under ten minutes to play. Over the next five minutes, HC responded with a 13 -5 run to push the lead back to ten at 65-55 and never allowed IUSB to get any closer. HC's Jessica Ramey, who contributed five points during the run, finished with 25 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals in the game. Second in Tourney It was a tale of two halves. The Foresters dropped in 54 points to Cedarville's 43 in the second half of the Huntington College-AmeriHost Inn Tournament, but unfortunately, Cedarville University had mounted a 25-point half-time lead that proved insurmountable for HC as they fell 90-76 in the title game. "After such a horrible half, I was proud of how the team responded." said Coach Culler. "We could have been blown out by 40, but they displayed a lot of fight and competitiveness. We just need to figure out how to get that kind of effort from the beginning of the game." HC was led by its two freshmen, Katie Stiffler and Amy Berry, who both came of to score 15 and 14 points respectively. "We got some big minutes from Katie and Amy, in fact, they were about all we had going in the first half. You can't ask for more than that from your freshmen." Lane Allen, Janna Knisely, and Jessah Martin each added 10 points apiece. The loss drops the women to 1-3 on the season. Warriors Out-Sprint HC From the opening tip, the Indiana Tech Lady Warriors were off to the races and sprinted past the Foresters 83-74 for the win.
