| 10.20.04 - The Foresters closed
their regular season schedule with a 3-2 loss to Indiana Wesleyan
University. After a scoreless first half, the Wildcats,
needing a win to clinch the conference championship, netted three
goals to HC's two to earn the MCC title. In the second half,
IWU started the scoring in the 55th minute when Ashley Palmer
dribbled past two defenders and hit a long shot into the goal. IWU
doubled their lead in the 62nd minute when HC failed to clear the
ball at the edge of the penalty box and Megan Sweeney blasted the
shot home. Five minutes later HC got back in the game when Sarah
Kaufman took the ball from a Wildcat defender, hit a shot off the
cross bar, and headed home the rebound. IWU regained the two goal
lead 10 minutes later when Teresa Walters jumped on a loose ball and
scored. The Foresters responded again when Heather O'Keefe sent a
shot that rebounded off the crossbar to Kaufman who scored her
second of the game in the 86th minute. The Wildcat defense held from
there to preserve the 3-2 win. "We played well tonight,"
said Coach Datema. "IWU doesn't give up many goals so I was
pleased with the goals we scored. The goals that were scored against
us were all correctable situations so we feel pretty good heading
into the tournament this weekend." Heading into the MCC
tournament this weekend, the Foresters stand at 7-8 overall and
completed the conference regular season schedule with a 3-5 record.
First round pairings and game times for Saturday will be released
later today.
