The Cornerstone University Golden
Eagles scored two goals in each half and shutout the Foresters to earn
a 4-0 victory. Cornerstone took the lead in the 8th minute when Grace
Kelly was left unmarked at the top of the penalty area and fired home
for the score. The Golden Eagles doubled their advantage in the 20th
minute when Leah Koster dribbled through the HU defense and scored
from a sharp angle on the right side.
Cornerstone then struck early in
the second half converting a free kick from just outside the penalty
area. Down 3-0, the Foresters began to create a few more scoring
chances with their best opportunity coming on a Sarah Kaufman header
that ricocheted off the crossbar. The Golden Eagle defense tightened
up after that and HU could never find the back of the net. Jaren
Soule completed the scoring for CU in the 84th minute.
“It was a frustrating day in the sense that we
saw some good things from our team, but we couldn’t sustain any
momentum," said Coach Datema. "Cornerstone is relentless with
their pressure on the ball and it was just enough to keep us off
balance. I think we are headed in the right direction and we will have
some strong competition this coming week that should give us some good
experience.”
The loss drops the women to 2-3 on the
year. |
