| 08.24.06 - In the
Foresters' season opener, Trinity Christian College, ranked 22nd in
the NAIA polls, was too much for HU as the Trolls knocked them off
7-1. Trinity Christian wasted
little time getting the jump on the Foresters, scoring its first goal
just four minutes into the contest. HU got the equalizer two
minutes later when freshman Bethany McGraw beat a Troll defender and
buried the ball in the back of the net.
Trinity answered back less than a
minute later to regain the lead and added two more scores over the
next eight minutes. The Forester defense then settled down and
held the Trolls scoreless the final 30 minutes of the half, but the
damage had already been done. In the second half, Trinity
continued to dominate with three more scores, while its defense
shutdown HU's offense the remainder of the match.
"When we got the ball to Bethany and
Colleen (Knox), good things happened," said Coach Nathan Sharpe.
"Trinity dominated possession, but we had three solid scoring
opportunities that could have changed the game. I thought we pushed
through when we could have rolled over."
The Trolls out-shot HU 35-7 for the
match. HU keeper, Robyn Althoff, recorded 27 saves.
