| 09.05.06 - The
Manchester College Spartans downed the Foresters 5-2 in a match that
was closer than the final score would indicate. A 3-2 Manchester
advantage with 15 minutes to play mushroomed into a three goal victory
when the Spartans scored back-to-back goals with 12 minutes to go.
HU came out flat to open the match and
gave up a goal off a corner kick in the first minute of play.
Bethany McGraw got the equalizer off an assist from Colleen Knox in
the 24th minute, but Manchester netted a second goal with under five
minutes left in the half to take a 2-1 at the break.
McGraw again came up with the equalizer
13 minutes into the second half, but again the Spartans responded to
regain the lead in the 64th minute. HU tried to answer back, but
instead gave up the two late goals sealing the victory for the
Spartans.
"We gave up goals at really bad times
in the first 10 minutes and last ten minutes of a half," said Coach
Sharpe. "We rebounded well but we can't keep putting ourselves
in bad positions early in games."
Manchester out-shot the Foresters 18-8
and had six corner kicks to just one for HU. The loss drops the
women to 2-2 on the season. |
