| 09.18.08 - The
Foresters mounted a 3-1 lead early in the second half only to let it
slip away as Olivet College scored the final two goals of regulation
to force overtime. After two extra periods, the game ended in
a 3-3 tie. The Comets were the
first to put one on the scoreboard 15 minutes into the game, but
HU's Liz DeHaan got the equalizer in the 36th minute to make it 1-1
at intermission. Bethany McGraw scored back-to-back goals with
the second assisted by Stephanie Spitnale in the first 12 minutes of
the second half to give the Foresters a 3-1 cushion, but it wasn't
quite enough.
Olivet pulled within one with a score
midway through the half and then deadlocked the match with its final
goal at the 77.58 mark. Both teams' defenses held in the two
overtime periods.
Although the Comets outshot HU 42-16
overall and 21-10 on shots on goal, the Foresters made better use of
their opportunities and keeper Emily Walker kept HU in the match
with her 18 saves on the day.
With the tie, the Foresters now stand
at 3-3-1 on the season. |
