Huntington University women’s soccer coach Ryan Burgher announced
the signing of his sixth recruit for the
2009 school year,
Kristin Calvert from Plymouth High School.
Calvert was a
four-year starter for the Pilgrims. During her high school career,
Calvert led her team to a 39-14-15 record and conference championships
in 2007 and 2008. In her senior campaign Calvert was named
All-Conference honorable mention and to the All-Sectional team.
Calvert was also named Most Valuable Midfielder her senior year.
As a club player
Calvert has played seven years with the Plymouth Travel Soccer Club,
three years with the Argos Futbol Club, and has also guest played for
the Fort Wayne Sports Club and the Elkhart Flames. In 2007, Calvert’s
club team won the Challenge Cup Championship.
During her time at
Plymouth High school Calvert has been a part of the Pride of Plymouth
Marching Band and the tennis team. Calvert is also a volunteer coach
for the Plymouth Recreation Soccer League.
Calvert, who has
narrowed her choice of major down to either exercise science and
social work at Huntington said, “I chose Huntington because after
visiting other schools, talking with other coaches and looking at
other soccer programs, I knew right away that Huntington was right for
me! The environment is great, everyone on campus is so nice and I like
that it is a smaller school with so much to offer,” said Calvert. “I’m
excited about getting to know all the girls on the soccer team better
and just having a good time!”
“Kristin is going to
be a great addition to our program here at Huntington," said Coach
Burgher. "She comes from a high school program that has had a great
deal of success in her four years. Being a part of a team like that
Kristin has learned and modeled the type of work ethic and dedication
you need to be successful and I’m really excited to have her bring
that to HU. Kristin also has great skill on the ball and a vision for
the game, which will allow me to play Kristin in different spots on
the field.” |
