10.06.09 - Bethany McGraw and Erin Lessing's playing days have been cut short by season ending injuries. Both McGraw and Lessing earned starting spots for the Foresters but are unable to continue this year’s campaign.

Everyone had high hopes for Bethany McGraw this season. McGraw entered her senior year as HU's all-time leading scorer with 52 goals. She came into preseason camp eager to add to that number.

“McGraw came in this year in the best shape I had seen her in. You can tell she had been pushing herself all summer and was ready to leave her mark on the 2009-10 season,” said Coach Burgher.

On September 5th against Trine University, McGraw tore her ACL ending her college career.  “It hurts when you lose a player like Bethany McGraw. The obvious reason being the loss of 25-30 goals from one person, you really miss that," commented Bergher.  "But what people don't see outside of games is the type of leader McGraw is. She really pushes this team, you would very rarely find a day where McGraw wasn't pushing herself and her teammates.” McGraw ends her college career with 57 goals.

Although Lessing was in her first season as a Forester she was a defensive presence as stopper. “Erin will be missed in the middle of the field. She’s a very skilled player and a great leader for the girls,” said Coach Burgher. Lessing ended her season against Marygrove College on September 19th. Lessing had 1 goal in the 2009-2010 season.
