08.28.09 - The HU women's soccer team went 1-1 over the weekend at the University of Saint Francis' Cougar Cup.  In Friday night's contest, the Illinois Institute of Technology downed the Foresters 3-1.  The Scarlet Hawks went to work right away scoring two goals within the first twenty minutes of the game.  The Foresters were held scoreless in the first half, managing just four shots.

Having regrouped at intermission, HU stepped up their pressure. Three minutes into the second half senior Bethany McGraw brought the Foresters within one. HU outshot the Hawks 8-2 in the second half but couldn't capitalize on any of their scoring opportunities. Illinois Institute squelched the Forester's rally with another goal at the 75:28 mark effectively putting the game out of reach.

On Saturday the Foresters wasted no time getting in the scoring column against the Statesmen of William Penn University.  Senior Bethany McGraw led the charge recording a hat trick on the day. Her first goal came at the 12:51 mark on an assist by junior Stephanie Spitnale.  Spitnale then went on to score her own goal at the 20:50 mark.  Ten minutes later the Statesmen found the back of the net to keep things interesting in the first half.

Huntington dominated the second half.  McGraw made it 3-1 at the 66:57 mark on an assist from junior Brenda Bair.  She finished her hat trick on an unassisted goal with 15 minutes left in the contest to secure the 4-1 victory.

The Foresters outshot the Statesmen 13-11. HU keeper Ashley Barlow recorded six saves on the day.

With this win, the Foresters are 1-1.  They will compete in the Jennifer L. Siersma Memorial Classic this weekend at Trine University.
